PEERNET Reports Designer comes with an extensive set of Bar Codes for use in your reports and labels. For complete information about each of these Bar Code types, see Appendix A: Bar Code Symbologies. Note that all properties listed below are not available for all types; if a specific property is not available for the selected Bar Type, it will not appear in the Properties Pane.

To add a Bar Code, click InsertBar Code, then click the location on the report or label where you want the Bar Code to appear. The following Bar Code properties can be configured:

Name

A unique, assigned name, consisting of the words “Bar Code” plus the first available number (for example, Bar Code 1, Bar Code 2, and so on), by default. You can also give your own, unique name to the component for ease of reference when using event methods.

X

The exact horizontal co-ordinate for the top left corner of the Bar Code.

Y

The exact vertical co-ordinate for the top left corner of the Bar Code.

Width and Height

The width and height of the bounding box for the Bar Code. The actual size of the Bar Code depends on the data encoded in the bars.

Hide Duplicates

If you set this field to Yes duplicate entries will not be repeated.

Bar Type

The type of symbology used for the Bar Code.

Value

The value encoded in the bars of the Bar Code. The value that can be encoded in the bars depends on the selected type of Bar Code.

Sample Value

The sample value that displays in the component during design time.

Format Locale

The location-specific formatting selection for the component.

Format As

The type of value displayed in the Bar Code (Plain Text, Date and Time, Currency, or Number).

Format Pattern

The format to use for the selected Type. Click the icon_browse_button button to the right of the Format Pattern field to launch the Format dialog box, where you can make your desired selection.

XDimension

The nominal dimension of the narrow bars and spaces in the Bar Code symbol. It creates a compact symbol that will scan with complete accuracy. Be sure to test any changes to this property with your Bar Code scanner.

Row Height

The height of each row in the symbol. Row height is used to compute the YDimension of the bars using the formula YDimension = Row Height * XDimension. The default setting of 3 rows is the row height recommended by USS/CEN specifications. (PDF417 Bar Code only)

Truncated

If you set this field to Yes the right row indicators will be omitted. In a relatively clean environment where damage is unlikely, the right row indicators can be omitted and the stop pattern can be reduced to one module width bar. This truncation reduces the non-data overhead from four code words per row to two. However, if you use truncation, the symbol is less able to withstand degradation. (PDF417 Bar Code only)

ECC Level

The error correction level used by the symbol. A symbol contains at least two Reed-Solomon error correction code words, which provide for both error detection and error correction. The error correction level allows for dirty or damaged code to still be read. Valid entries are 0 (two code words) to 8 (512 code words). (PDF417 Bar Code only)

Aspect Ratio

The ratio between the symbol’s width and its height. For example, a value of 1 creates a roughly square-shaped symbol. The aspect ratio is used only for calculations when rows and columns are both zero. (PDF417 Bar Code only)

Columns

The number of columns in the Bar Code. The number you set is applied whenever possible. If the columns value is set to zero, the number of columns is a variable length, depending on either the rows or the aspect ratio. (PDF417 Bar Code only)

Rows

The number of rows in the Bar Code. The number you set is applied whenever possible.  If the rows value is set to zero, the number of rows is a variable length, depending on either the rows or the aspect ratio. (PDF417 Bar Code only)

Init Character

If you set this field to Yes the application will automatically insert codeword 921 into the value to be encoded. Codeword 921 instructs the reader to interpret the symbol data for reader initialization or programming. (PDF417 Bar Code only)

Bar Height

The height of the Bar Code bars. If 0 (zero) is used for the bar height, the application automatically calculates the minimum height required, based on the symbology of the Bar Code.

Bar Ratio

The Bar Ratio sets the ratio between wide and narrow bars. Valid values are from 2.0 to 3.0. This property is only available if the bar type is in the Code 3 of 9 or Code 2 of 5 Bar Code families (Code39, Interleaved 2 of 5, OPC, and SCC-14).

Bar InterGap

The distance between the bars, given as the ratio of the narrowest bar width. To have a gap the same size as the narrowest bar width, use 1.0. For a gap size one and a half times the size of the narrowest bar width, use 1.5.

Guard Length

Indicates how long to draw out the guard bars in a specific product code (EAN, UPC, JAN, etc.)

Bar Rotate

The degree of rotation of the Bar Code (0, 90, 180, 270).

Bar Tracker Height

The height of the bar tracker for the Bar Code. (4-State Bar Codes only)

Bar Bearer Bars

If you set this field to Yes bearer bars will be added to the top and bottom of the Bar Code.

Bar Start

The Bar Start is the start character for CODABAR-type Bar Codes. The valid strings are A, B, C, D, T, N, *, and E. Some readers require the start and stop to be grouped as: A/T, B/N, C/*, and D/E. For details, refer to your Bar Code scanner manual. (CODABAR Bar Code only)

Bar Stop

The Bar Stop is the stop character for CODABAR-type Bar Codes. The valid strings are A, B, C, D, T, N, *, and E. Some readers require the start and stop to be grouped as: A/T, B/N, C/*, and D/E. For details, refer to your Bar Code scanner manual. (CODABAR Bar Code only)

Bar Color

The Bar Code color. For maximum contrast and best results, use black as the Bar Color and white as the Fill color. Click the icon_browse_button button to go to the Color Chooser and select a custom color.

Fill Color

The color surrounding the Bar Code and its text. For maximum contrast and best results, use black as the Bar Color and white as the Fill color. Click the icon_browse_button button to go to the Color Chooser and select a custom color.

Text Visible

If you set this field to Yes the data contained in the Bar Code will be visible.

Text Position

The position for the Bar Code text (Top or Bottom). This property is only applicable if Text Visible is set to Yes.

Text Alignment

The alignment for the Bar Code text (Left, Center, or Right). This property is only applicable if Text Visible is set to Yes.

Text Font Name

The name of the font used in the Bar Code. This property is only applicable if Text Visible is set to Yes.

Text Gap

The size of the space between the visible text and the Bar Code bars. This property is only applicable if Text Visible is set to Yes.

Hide Checksum

If you set this field to No the check digit(s) will be displayed along with the visible text. This property is only applicable if the selected bar type requires one or more check digits and Text Visible is set to Yes.

Can Grow

If you set this field to Yes the component will be automatically resized if its value is larger than its bounding box. Other components will be shifted to accommodate the size increase. If you set this field to No the component’s value may appear truncated in the bounding box.

Can Shrink

If you set this field to Yes the component will be automatically resized if its value is smaller than its bounding box. Other components will be shifted to occupy any created space. If you set this field to No the component’s bounding box may include empty space.

Propagate Change

The controls the behaviour of the Can Grow and Can Shrink properties and how this component propagates changes caused by another component.  When set To the right and below a change in the size/position of this component will affect the position of components to the right and below this component.   When set To the right only a change in the size/position of this component will only affect the position of components to the right and will not affect components below this component.  When set Below only a change in the size/position of this component will only affect the position of components below this component and will not affect components to the right of this component. When set No a change in the size/position of this component will not affect any other component.

Visible

If you set this field to No the Bar Code will be hidden.

Locked

If you set this field to Locked you will not be able to move the Bar Code by dragging.
